Women's Water Polo Day 6 Preview: The Netherlands in deep against champs
(BEIJING, August 20) -- World champion the United States will clash with the Netherlands in the Women's Water Polo gold medal final at the Yingdong Natatorium on Thursday, August 21.
World Cup champion Australia encounter Montreal 2005 world champion Hungary for the bronze medal. Both teams bring plenty of flair and experience to the intriguing match as they battled to a 10-10 draw on Day 2 of the competition. Most of the players have competed in gold-medal finals, so they know what it takes to step up at the right moment. The match starts at 5 p.m. (UTC/GMT +8)
The US team has held the World No. 1 ranking since winning the world crown in Melbourne in 2007 and also won the 2007 World League, but lost the 2008 World League final to Russia. They faced Australia twice in 2007 and, with the Aussie Stingers playing for bronze and Russia having completed their tournament in seventh place, the Netherlands bring a fresh face to the finals. The match is scheduled for 6.20 p.m.
