Venue: Shenyang Olympic Stadium
Shenyang is famous for its football fanatics, which is probably why it was chosen as one of the co-host cities of the football preliminaries for the Olympic Games in August.
To prepare for the event, the city built the Shenyang Olympic Stadium, which was completed last June. From the outside, it looks like a giant, shiny, silver dome with a roof parted in the middle to reveal what's inside. The dome is made of polymer sheets strong enough to withstand heavy rains and snowfall.
The Shenyang Olympic Stadium, one of the five football venues in the 2008 Olympic Games, is expected to host a test event in July 6th. The Venue Media Center is ready to welcome reporters from all over the world.
Venue Media Center team staff is in place. The press manager and photo manager are ready after being trained in media operations. Volunteers were recruited and trained during test events in Shenyang.
According to the press manager, there is a photojournalist workstation and three journalist workstations in the Shenyang Olympic Stadium, with a capability of 150 journalists and 30 photographer journalists.
The mixed zone operation will be in accordance with common practice of Olympic Games and FIFA's World Cup events. BOB (Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Co., Ltd) has especially arranged a zone for flash interviews within field of play. The press will have interviews along the player's exit path depending on the venue situation.
Inside, the stadium features a multi-purpose venue, complete with a pitch, a track around it, with 60,000 seats and VIP lounges. If you're sitting in the nosebleed section, there are two large display screens at each end to catch all the action.
The turf is rugged enough to withstand the cold temperatures of winter and should hold up well during the fierce competition the field will get when the Games begin.
